Econometric students take on the T2S case challenge
Type 2 Solutions teamed up with FAECTOR and Erasmus University to challenge students with real-world healthcare data, showing how future data scientists can turn complex OR insights into smarter, data-driven decisions.

Challenging the next generation of data scientist
Erasmus University students explore the future of healthcare data with Type 2 Solutions
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a business case session for Econometrics students at Erasmus University Rotterdam, organized by FAECTOR, and what a session it was!
The case centered around Benchmarking OR, a collaborative initiative between the seven Dutch university hospitals (UMCs) and the NFU to improve operating room (OR) management using shared data. Since 2019, Type 2 Solutions has been responsible for processing this data, using our Data Migration Platform and Data Quality Monitor.
The students were asked to step into the future, the year 2030, to be exact, and investigate a mysterious set of data quality rules and surgical treatments that seemed far ahead of our time.
Their challenge:
- Perform an initial data analysis on OR utilization and specializations
- Identify outliers and data quality issues
- Propose ways to improve OR scheduling and planning efficiency
- Offer data-driven advice to this “2030 hospital”
The creativity and analytical skills the students brought to the table were truly inspiring. From tackling messy data to formulating optimization strategies, they showed exactly how data can drive better healthcare.
Curious about the day? Watch the video below for a short recap!
A big thank you to Lieke Horenberg from Benchmarking OR for your presence and valuable input during the session!
And yes, we brought some delicious snacks from our amazing customers Holie and Johnny Cashew to the university!
