Data matrix code
A Data Matrix code is a two dimensional barcode consisting of white and black squares in a square or rectangle pattern. The data captured in a Data Matrix code, can be human readable tekst as well as binary data.

Scanning the Data Matrix code is done using a scanner with a camera chip.

Data Matrix: application in healthcare
The application of the Data Matrix code is standardized by GS1. The pharmaceutical industry has committed itself on a global level to apply the GS1-Data Matrix on pharmaceuticals. This technically facilitates and simplifies interfaces with systems used in healthcare and can add to patient safety in general.

Type 2 Solutions is a member of the GS1 Healthcare task force and actively involved in the development and implementation of the GS1 Data Matrix code in Dutch healthcare.
